
Well, most of us prefer eating white rice 2 to 3 times or even more on a single day. But, studies have confirmed that white rice is not a good nutrient rich substance. White Rice is just refined starch while the unrefined Brown Rice consists of many vitamins, proteins, minerals and is a fiber rich food.

What is Brown Rice?
It is the unrefined grain with only the external hull being removed. Brown rice consists of many layers which include the bran and germ of the seed.
How is White Rice obtained?
White Rice is obtained after milling and polishing brown rice. In this process the bran and germ layer are removed. This is done to increase the shelf life. The bran powder, obtained as a side product is used for feeding cattle.
Bran - is rich in fiber, vitamins B1, B3, B6, manganese, magnesium, iron, selenium, tryptophan, phosphorus, essential fatty acids and dietary substances
Germ - is rich in vitamin B complex and proteins equivalent of egg white

How to use Brown Rice?
Brown Rice should not be stored for long period. Some companies suggest a period of 4months from its packaged date. It should be kept in air tight containers and it is good to store in a refrigerator.
